Did you ever hear some say, “Take only pictures and leave only footprints?” This is the basic idea of “Leave No Trace.” Leave No Trace is a plan that helps promote good environmental stewardship. It helps protect the environment for future generations and allows everyone to enjoy outdoor activities. Leave No Trace applies in a backyard or local park (frontcountry) as much as it does in the wilderness (backcountry).
“Leave No Trace” is an awareness and an attitude rather than a set of rules. We should practice “Leave No Trace” in our attitude and actions wherever we go. When using Landis Woods Park or any other park, use the ideas of “Leave No Trace” by doing some of the following:
· Plan ahead and prepare
· Dispose of waste properly including dog waste
· Hike on designated trails and use park facilities as they were designed
· Do not pick plants or damage trees
· Respect wildlife
· Be considerate of other visitors
