Community Development
The Community Development manages long-range planning efforts in Manheim Township, with a strong focus on implementing the recommendations of Getting to a Complete Community 2035, the Township's Municipal Comprehensive Plan.
Mission
The mission of the Community Development Department is to promote proactive transportation, housing, and land use planning by developing partnerships, identifying funding sources, and coordinating with other Township departments.
Responsibilities
To fulfill its mission, the Community Development Department engages in some of the following activities:
- Coordinate the final review and adoption of Getting to a Complete Community 2035.
- Manage the Township Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee, including assisting with the development of its annual work plan.
- Work to ensure that Township planning projects are consistent with Places2040 County Comprehensive Plan, the Connects2050 County Transportation Plan, the Lancaster County Active Transportation Plan, and the comprehensive plans of neighboring municipalities.
- Provide planning guidance and support to Township advisory boards and committees.
- Lead the creation of long-range planning documents that serve to achieve the goals of Getting to a Complete Community 2035.
- Work with other Township departments to integrate long-range planning goals into day-to-day operations.
- Engage with Manheim Township residents on key issues impacting their quality of life.
- Communicate and seek feedback from developers and the local business community to ensure that the Township remains a business-friendly community.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with the Manheim Township School District, neighboring municipalities, Lancaster County Departments, State Agencies, and non-governmental organizations.
- Share information on current projects and partnerships with the Township Board of Commissioners, Planning Commission, and other departments.
