LANCASTER, Penna. (May 11th, 2021) – Manheim Township Board of Commissioners presented a commendation to honor Manheim Township resident, and former Youth Aid Panel member, Jon Singer, on Monday, May 10th at the Manheim Township Public Library.
For the last twenty-eight years, Jon Singer was directly involved in hundreds of juvenile offender cases which avoided the formal juvenile court system and spared youths from the future hauntings of a criminal record.
“We are pleased to honor Jon for his years of service to Manheim Township, especially in the area of helping to guide our youth,” said president of the Manheim Township Board of Commissioners, Thomas O’Brien.
Two important goals of the Youth Aid Panel include preventing youth from becoming more deeply involved in delinquent acts and poor decision making, and holding youth responsible for their actions through specific good services to the victim and/or the community.
Jon Singer and his fellow founding members of the Panel, directly led to all of the police departments in Lancaster County forming their own respective Youth Aid Panels. In 2020 alone, the Manheim Township Youth Aid Panel heard and acted on over 60 active juvenile offender cases.
“Jon was an important part of helping to redirect juveniles and improve their situation. He volunteered his time and helped to improve the quality of life for countless juveniles and their families. He made a difference,” said Manheim Township Police Chief Thomas Rudzinski.
After twenty-eight dedicated years of volunteer service, Jon Singer announced his retirement.
“It is a pleasure to recognize Mr. Singer’s service to the community. He is a role model for volunteers,” said Commissioner Carol Gifford. “We appreciate Mr. Singer’s interest and dedication to serving Manheim Township youth and residents for 28 years. He has helped many youth take positive actions to avoid law enforcement records.”
Without a doubt, the Township of Manheim owes Jon Singer a great debt of gratitude and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.
