[ARCHIVED] Electric Vehicles & Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment

Electric vehicles are becoming more and more commonplace.  A unique feature of an electric vehicle is the need for a 240-volt charger.  Manheim Township Administrative Order 2019-3 has been established to provide the permit and inspection requirements for both residential and commercial charging stations. That Administrative Order can be found on our website at under the Code Compliance Tab and under the heading “Administrative Orders and Design Bulletins”.

Per Administrative Order 2019-3, the following permit requirements have been established:

  1. A building permit is to be obtained for the installation of Commercial Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE).  If the proposed EVSE installation is to be implemented as part of new building construction, the installation shall be applied for as part of the new construction building permit.
  2. An over-the-counter Electrical Permit is to be obtained for Residential EVSE installations.

The EVSE administrative order can be found here: Administrative Order #2019-3
